Garlic Kingsland Wight Bulbs (Hardneck)
Garlic Kingsland Wight Bulbs (Hardneck) are supplied as 2 bulbs and offer a beautiful, reliable variety that combines strong growth with outstanding flavour.
This elegant hardneck garlic produces white-skinned bulbs packed with plump pink cloves, reminiscent of the classic French Rose de Lautrec. As a Creole type, it is well known for its resilience and delivers a rich, full flavour with a pleasing spicy depth, making it a rewarding choice for home growers.
Originating from regions including Spain and south-west France, and with a long heritage stretching back to Central Asia, Creole garlics are prized for their flavour and dependable storage qualities. For best results, plant in autumn, although early spring planting can also be successful in warmer parts of the UK.
Sourced from trusted expert growers at The Garlic Farm, each bulb is carefully selected for quality and performance. Easy to grow in beds, containers or allotments, all bulbs are certified disease and virus free, giving gardeners confidence from planting through to harvest.
Garlic Types
Hardneck Garlic (Allium sativum var. ophioscorodon) generally more hardy than softneck varieties (they are the best choice for northern gardeners) and tend to be larger but with fewer cloves per bulb. They produce scapes in early summer – a strong, single flower stalk that should be removed and used in a range of culinary dishes.
Softneck Garlic (Allium sativum var. sativum) often produce smaller cloves per head but are quicker to mature and will store for longer than hardneck varieties. Softneck types prefer warmer conditions and are generally milder in flavour, with soft stems ideal for plaiting.
